The Still Point
The Still Point
An Introduction to Zen Buddhism
Gather Wellness Studio
19 May 2026 | 5:45pm – 7:30pm
Free Event
We warmly invite you to join us for The Still Point, an introductory evening of Zen Buddhist practice and reflection. This session offers a gentle and accessible entry into Zen, combining guided meditation, simple teachings, and space for questions. Whether you are completely new to meditation or looking to deepen an existing practice, this evening is an opportunity to pause, settle, and explore the essence of Zen with Kaido and Suido Nash.
Zen is a lifelong practice.
It is not simply sitting in stillness on a cushion for 30 minutes a day. As Zen teacher Charlotte Joko Beck reminds us:
“Our whole life becomes practice, 24 hours a day.”
Kaido & Suido Nash
New Zealand–based Zen practitioners Kaido and Suido Nash will be hosting a free introduction to Zen Buddhist meditation (Zazen) this May at Gather Wellness Studio.
Kaido is a senior student in the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhists and offers guidance and mentorship within the Zen community. Together with her husband, Suido, they are regarded as elders in the sangha (Buddhist community), with over 37 years of practice.
They coordinate week-long silent meditation retreats (sesshin), weekend retreats (zazenkai), daily morning sittings (both in person and online), and facilitate regular study groups.
All are welcome, this is a free event.
Places are limited, so early booking is recommended. Bookings are essential.
Please note that we have a limited number of chairs, bolsters and blankets, please bring your own cushion and blanket if you have one.

“All along, each one of us is perfect and complete, lacking nothing. But unless we see that, it is of no value to us. The only way to see it is through the Dharma gate of liberation: Zazen. It is the gateway, the absolute heart of practice.”
— John Daido Loori, The Eight Gates of Zen
You may also wish to explore a Dharma talk by Kaido and Suido’s first teacher, John Daido Loori Roshi, founder of Zen Mountain Monastery in upstate New York, on beginning Zen practice. Watch Here.
