Getting started at Gather

  • Yes - Gather Wellness Studio holds a 5★ rating on Google and Mindbody and is consistently praised by the Wollongong community for its welcoming atmosphere, experienced teachers, and thoughtfully curated timetable.

Located in East Corrimal in Wollongong's northern suburbs, Gather offers a wide range of yoga and mat pilates classes each week - including Vinyasa, Slow Flow, Yin, Restorative, Chair Yoga, Sunrise, Mat Pilates Strength, Mat Pilates Longevity, and Align & Flow - suitable for all ages, abilities, and levels of experience.

What students regularly highlight is the intentionally small class sizes, which means teachers can offer genuinely personalised guidance that's hard to find at larger studios. Gather also offers free yoga classes for frontline workers and an on-site Exercise Physiology service - reflecting a commitment to community wellbeing that goes well beyond a typical yoga studio.

If you're looking for yoga or mat pilates in the Wollongong area, Gather Wellness Studio is a standout choice.

  • We offer a full weekly timetable of yoga and mat pilates classes designed to suit all bodies, ages, and experience levels.

Our yoga classes include Sunrise, Vinyasa, Slow Flow, Yin, Restorative, Chair Yoga, and Slow Flow to Restorative. Our mat pilates classes include Mat Pilates Strength, Mat Pilates Longevity, and Align & Flow - a fusion of Pilates, barre, and yoga. We also offer Kids & Teen Yoga, Frontline Yoga (free for past and present frontline workers), and regular community events called Gatherings.

You can view the full timetable and book classes at gatherwellness.studio/timetable.

  • Yes! If you're new to Gather, you can access unlimited classes for your first month for $99. This is a great way to explore the full timetable, try different class styles, and find what feels right for you - all at a very accessible price. This offer is available to first-time users only.

  • Getting started at Gather is easy. You can sign up and purchase a class pass or membership directly through our Prices & Passes page, or through the Mindbody app (search for Gather Wellness Studio).

You'll need to create a free Mindbody account to book classes online — this takes just a couple of minutes and lets you manage your bookings, view the timetable, and cancel classes all in one place.

If you need any help setting up your account or figuring out which option is right for you, just get in touch - we're happy to walk you through it.

  • No - we supply everything you need. Mats are laid out for each class based on the number of students booked, and all props and equipment are provided. You just need to show up.

That said, you're very welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer - many students like the familiarity of practising on their own.

  • Absolutely - please do! We know starting something new can feel daunting, and we want you to feel confident and informed before you walk through the door. Whether you have questions about which class to try first, whether Gather is the right fit for you, or anything else at all, we'd love to hear from you.

Head to our Contact page to get in touch and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

  • Not at all. Most of our classes are suitable for all levels, and our teachers offer modifications throughout so you can always work at your own pace. If you're completely new to yoga or pilates, we'd suggest starting with Slow Flow, Yin, or Restorative for yoga, or Mat Pilates Longevity for pilates — all are beginner friendly by design.

Not sure where to start? Get in touch and we'll help you find the right fit.

  • Absolutely - and this is one of the most common things holding people back from trying. You don't need to be flexible to start yoga, and you don't need to be fit to start pilates. You come to these practices to become those things over time.

At Gather, our teachers offer modifications for every level, and props like blocks, straps, and bolsters make yoga accessible for all bodies. In mat pilates, every exercise can be scaled to your current strength and range of motion. Many of our most dedicated students walked in for the very first time not long ago.

Your first visit

  • You can book classes online through our timetable at gatherwellness.studio/timetable, or through the Mindbody app (available on iOS and Android via Mindbody). We recommend booking in advance - our classes are intentionally small, and popular sessions do fill quickly.

Members can book up to three weeks in advance. If a class is full, you can join the waitlist and you'll be notified if a spot opens up.

  • We're located at Shop 1/23 Murray Road, East Corrimal NSW 2518 - in the East Corrimal shops, in Wollongong's northern suburbs. Parking is easy, with street parking available on the western end of Murray Road and the northern end of Carroll Road.

  • For yoga, wear comfortable, stretchy clothing you can move freely in - fitted activewear works better than loose clothing, as it helps your teacher observe your alignment. Yoga mats are available at the studio, but you're welcome to bring your own. Yoga is always practised barefoot.

For mat pilates, wear form-fitting activewear, and bring grip socks if you have them - these help with stability on the mat and are recommended for hygiene. We provide mats, but again you're welcome to bring your own.

For both: bring a water bottle, and arrive at least 5 minutes before your class starts to settle in without disturbing others once the session has begun. Let your teacher know it's your first class - they'll look out for you throughout.

  • Please aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before your class starts. This gives you time to take a breath, set up, and let your teacher know if it's your first class or if you have any injuries or areas of concern. Arriving on time also means we can start promptly and avoid disrupting students who are already settled.

  • We understand plans change - here's how it works:

Cancel at least 8 hours before your class starts and you won't be charged. Cancellations made within 8 hours of the class start time will be charged the full amount.

Please cancel through the Gather Wellness Studio app or website - teachers aren't able to take cancellations directly. We often have waitlists for popular classes, so cancelling in time gives someone else the chance to take your spot. We really appreciate it.

Weekly Memberships

  • We offer two flexible weekly memberships - both with no lock-in contract, so you can pause or cancel anytime with 7 days' notice.

3-Class Weekly Membership - $49/week Includes up to 3 classes per week from our regular timetable. This is ideal if you have a consistent weekly routine and know roughly which sessions you'll attend. At $49 per week, you're paying around $16 per class — excellent value compared to casual rates.

Unlimited Weekly Membership - $55/week Includes unlimited classes per week from our regular timetable. This is perfect if you want the freedom to come as often as you like without counting sessions. At just $6 more per week than the 3-Class Membership, it pays for itself if you attend four or more classes a week.

Both memberships are automatically debited weekly, allow booking up to three weeks in advance, and exclude term courses (such as Kids Yoga) and workshops.

  • Both memberships are completely flexible - no lock-in contract. To pause or cancel, simply email us at hello@gatherwellness.studio at least 7 days before your next billing date. Suspensions are made in 7-day intervals in line with your billing cycle.

We're understanding about life getting in the way — holidays, illness, or a busy period at work. Just reach out and we'll sort it out for you.

  • If a weekly membership doesn't suit your schedule, we also offer:

    • Casual pass - $25 per class, perfect for dropping in occasionally

    • 10-class pack - $220 ($22 per class), with a 4-month expiry. Ideal if you attend roughly one class per week

    • 20-class pack - $400 ($20 per class), with a 4-month expiry. Great value if you attend two or more classes per week

All class packs can be used across any classes on the regular timetable, and they don't expire as quickly as you might think - 4 months gives you plenty of flexibility.

Yoga & Pilates

  • If you're new to yoga, Slow Flow, Yin, and Restorative are wonderful starting points.

Slow Flow is a gentler version of Vinyasa - postures are held a little longer and transitions are more accessible, making it easy to follow along and build confidence. Yin is a deeply nourishing class with long holds that release tension in the body's deeper tissues - great for anyone who wants something calming and meditative. Restorative is the most gentle option, where you'll be fully supported by props in passive poses designed for deep rest and nervous system recovery. Restorative runs on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month.

All three are explicitly beginner friendly, and our teachers offer modifications throughout. Not sure which to try first? Get in touch and we'll help.

  • We recommend starting with Mat Pilates Longevity if you're new to pilates. This class is thoughtfully paced and focuses on controlled, functional movement with a strong emphasis on alignment and technique - giving you the perfect foundation before progressing to something more dynamic.

Longevity is also ideal if you have osteoporosis, restricted joint mobility, osteoarthritis, or simply prefer a more supported environment. With a maximum of 12 people per class, you'll receive personalised attention throughout.

  • Both are forms of pilates rooted in the same principles - breath, centring, control, precision, and flow - but they use different equipment and create a different experience.

Mat pilates is performed on the floor using your own bodyweight, along with small props like resistance bands, light weights, and soft balls. It's highly accessible, requires no specialist equipment, and focuses on building core strength and control through precise, deliberate movement.

Reformer pilates uses a spring-loaded sliding machine called a reformer, which adds resistance and support to exercises. The machine allows for a greater range of movement and can make some exercises easier (the springs assist) or harder (the springs resist), depending on how they're set up. Reformer classes are typically more equipment-focused and studio-dependent.

At Gather, we specialise in mat pilates - and our classes use light weights, resistance bands, and Pilates balls to add variety and challenge. Many students find mat pilates builds a strong technical foundation that translates beautifully if they ever want to try reformer in the future.

  • Both practices build strength, flexibility, and body awareness — but they come from different traditions and have different emphases.

Yoga is an ancient practice that weaves together physical movement, breathwork, and meditation. At Gather, our yoga classes range from slow and restorative to more dynamic Vinyasa flows, but all share a focus on connecting breath with movement and cultivating inner awareness.

Mat pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates in the 20th century, is a structured exercise method built around core strength, posture, and precise, controlled movement. Our pilates classes use light weights, resistance bands, and soft balls to challenge strength and stability in a functional way.

Many of our students practise both — and find that yoga and pilates complement each other beautifully.

  • Most people notice improvements in flexibility, mood, and stress levels within 2–4 weeks of practising 2–3 times per week. For deeper physical changes — improved posture, greater range of motion, and increased strength — practising consistently 3–5 times per week over 2–3 months makes a significant difference.

Even once a week is worthwhile. Consistency matters more than frequency. Listen to your body, build gradually, and allow rest days for recovery.

  • Joseph Pilates famously said: "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference, and in 30 you'll have a whole new body." Practising 2–3 times per week is ideal for most people.

Within the first month you can expect improved core strength and better posture. After 6–8 weeks of consistent practice, many students notice reduced back pain, improved balance, and a stronger, more toned midsection. Combining pilates with yoga once or twice a week creates a beautifully well-rounded movement practice.

  • Both can be highly effective, and combining the two often gives the best results.

Mat pilates directly targets the deep core muscles that support the spine, making it particularly helpful for lower back pain caused by weakness or poor posture. Our Mat Pilates Longevity class is especially well suited if you're managing an injury or joint condition.

Yoga addresses back pain through spinal mobility, releasing tight muscles like hip flexors and hamstrings that pull on the lower back, and through stress reduction — since tension held in the body often shows up as back pain.

Always let your teacher know about any back concerns before class so they can guide you with the right modifications.
